b.1981, United Kingdom. Breath, 2021. Point Cloud.
Freed from physical confinements that exist in real life, Breath is a virtually-site specific work that draws upon themes of temporary support, rhythm and instability in Ben’s practice. Threading over the ceiling of the virtual space, the work comprises over 120,000 individual points which make a congruent, wave-like form. As the participant in the work moves through the exhibition space, the fibrous and light resolution of the form dissipates, revealing the constituent parts of the structure. The immateriality of the work presents an architecture that is both there and not there, alluding to the incredible potential but also the disorientating kaleidoscopic shifting of the different support structures we both make and inhabit.
