Different perspectives activate David’s sculpture, as it reads as a true arch form from one view, closes to make a ribbon form, forms a point, and then resolves as a circle. The multifarious viewpoints of the work parallels the rich conceptual elements it embodies. Tradition and innovation coexist in this work—as its archetypical form engages with the commemorative nature of arches in conventional architecture, the way it subsides to simplistic form speaks the language of traditional wrought iron structures that populate urban environments. Despite its multi-dimensionality, the sculpture stands as a compellingly simple structure on its own, characterised by a modulated line, sensitive understanding of material, and adaptability to the virtual exhibition space.
