In Pinecone (2019) by Helen McCusker, buoyantly irregular forms float on the pictorial space. Vividly coloured and dynamically placed shapes in touches of pink, blue, green, black, white, and orange hover over the warm, cream coloured surface. The juxtaposition of the solid filled shapes and linear figures add a sense of playful interaction within the amorphous composition. The painting is a wallpaper of narrative out of Helen’s favourite shapes and colours, which was inspired by the collections of intricate stories that she created with found objects during her childhood.
