Home Sweet Home-RosyRoomba is created from the snapshots that Mak 2 fabricates in the globally popular life simulation game “The Sims”. Devoid of tangible goals and objectives, the primary draw of the video game is to craft an alternate reality in a virtual space. In the game, the player creates a home based on pre-set features, and one of which is highly emulative of Hong Kong. The artist specifically choses this preset, creates a domestic environment, takes a snapshot, divides it to three different parts. Following this process, she then commissions different artists on Taobao, a Chinese e-commerce platform, to recreate the fragmented snapshot with their own interpretations. Recombination of the three panels results in slight visual dissonance, visually representing the disparity between an idealized version of domestic space versus reality.
