Interminance and confinement: two opposing sentiments, define the conceptual and visual language of Nuri’s paintings. His primary subjects are architectural, geometric, and abstract forms that are employed to survey and depict the implications of living in an urban setting. On a technical level, the artist deftly represents three dimensionality on a flat, two dimensional canvas; the painterly surface continuously expands, contemplating the simultaneous feelings of freedom and confinement that endlessness engenders. The darkness of the abstract compositions evoke a sense of the grayness that is universally prevalent in urban architecture, while also alluding to the isolating feeling that emerges from dwelling in a city.
