Marble. H: 12cm. Courtesy of David Aaron.

This simplistic idol head was once a part of a female statuette carved from a pure white marble stone. The artist would have had to work the surface with wet sand and abrasive substances to give life to the subject. Such an arduous process imbued a sublime sensation to the piece. Now completely faded, the other features of its face that were painted on the head are now absent; yet, the meticulously carved face and its nose exude the mastery of the artist thousands of years later.
