Circular form has been a continuous motif for Anusheh Zia, who creates installations that ruminatively respond to their natural and cultural surroundings. The artist specifically noticed that AORA’s circular dome adds a lofty womb-like quality to the gallery, and its opening to the skies ensures sunlight for the pond to thrive. For Aqua, a digitally site-responsive work, she experimented with the scale of the singular prayer rug and created an aquatic ecosystem from it. Stemmed from the desire to make it an oasis that people could feel welcome to interact with, sit with and share space with, the piece holds life and stretches to spaces above, around and within itself.
