‘Intercultural Style’ (Iran, Mid- to late third Millennium B.C.)
Chlorite. Length: 24.4 cm; height 21.3 cm. Courtesy Private Collection.
Highly ornate animals and ropes are intermingled this handled weight. Two human figures are at the side, controlling the animals that seem to be in tension. Made in Iran during mid-to late third Millennium BC, the function of this work is postulated to be funerary. The stagnance and strength of the material contrast with the active and staunch feeling that arises from the image carved on the work, creating a lasting impression.
