Inspired by the concrete structures that populate cities, Lucas’ works are dictated by an air-brushed ambiguity and amorphous amalgamations of colour and image. Murted, grayscale colours are layered with subtle architectural constructions, occasionally disrupted by segments of collaged photographs of buildings. Various layers that exist in the work reflect the strata of elements that exist in urban settings. The question of who and what populates and inhibits the city is the driving force behind this body of work. Does infrastructure exist for those who live in the city, or do they exist to maintain the infrastructure?
