Large-scale monotype prints diachronically plot the gradual breakdown of window blinds in Untitled, a part of Nicole’s most recent series Exoskeleton. Obstructing the visual exchange between the inside and the outside, the simple device is a layer that protects domestic spaces from being exposed to the external world. Conjoined by thin threads, the fibrous white slats loosely and tightly traverse the surface. The opaquely light yet predominant presence of the construction also evokes a skeletal impression to the work. Through this sensible construction, the artist draws attention to the fragile yet safe feeling that emerges between the internal and the external.
