Ben Stephenson

b.1990 in London. Lives and work in Mexico.

This monolithic column reflects Ben Stephenson’s investigation into themes of globalisation and the human impact during the Anthropocene. The base of the sculpture references light chambers found within many ancient Mayan and Aztec temples which would provide a grounding for the artwork as it extends towards the light. The hollowed column thus emits light, allowing the viewer to consider the contrast of the corporeal form with immersion in the ephemeral light.
