Completed after their time in two protected sites, Gapado Island in South Korea and Ise City, Ise Prefecture, Japan, Jane and Louise Wilson produced photographic images of natural elements strikingly synchronized with cultural sites and landscape. The contemporary construction of these cities are heavily focused on environmental preservation and tourism, while their past were long centered around harvesting and selling seafood. A sense of dependency and interconnectedness between these elements are visualized and emphasized in the works.Through their practice, the artists explore what it means to be an inhabitant of an environment with a distinct history and culture.
